The only difference between this system and surface drip irrigation in the type of dripper is how the drainage pipes are placed below the soil surface and the air drain valve is installed.

The components of the subsurface drip irrigation system are as follows:

Pumping station: Pumping station of this system includes pool or pond, suction valve, suction pipe, pump, shock absorber, one-way valve, return pipe, thrust pipe and throttle valve, thrust pipe and end throttle valve.

Central control unit: This unit typically includes a hydrocyclone, a sand filter with accessories (hand filter, pressure gauge, collector and wash tube), a fertilizer tank and secondary filters (mesh or disc).

Irrigation unit: Irrigation unit of this system refers to the set of semi-main pipe, drainage pipe with drippers on it and washing pipe. In subsurface drip irrigation, it is necessary to place a pipe at the end of each irrigation unit as a washing pipe. It is also necessary to install an air drain valve on the washing pipe to allow air to escape from the pipes below the soil surface.

Drainage pipes: Drainage pipes in the subsurface drip irrigation system are located below the soil surface and with special drippers, the possibility of clogging in them is minimized. These drippers are self-cleaning and pressure compensating.
